Eight weeks ago today, it seemed by chance, I ran across the profile of a 4+1 sibling group through the www.AdoptUSKids.org website.
Today we sit waiting to finish up a couple more things and see if we are blessed to become their adoptive family. Hopefully we will have everything on our end submitted by late Friday afternoon.
It has been a ride so far. God is so good. The 'things' are falling into place. Many things have been given to us that we needed. Many things have been found cheaply at yard sales. The provider has provided. We just are waiting for the new people to come into our lives.
We had an unused room at the front of the house. Formerly intended as a dining room...It has become the adoption staging area. I suspect after placement it will become the 'play room'.
The "Boy" totes are getting really full. Michael and Dwight are 2 and 3 years old...so I have been picking up everything from 24mo/2T to size 5/6. The 3T tote was so full I had to add another tote to split it out by season! Yesterday I was able to purchase four winter coats for the boys! 3T, 4T, 5 and 6! I paid less for the four, gently used, than one would have cost new at Target.
See all those Target bags squirreled into the book case? We have new jammies in a range of sizes...toddler dishes (dollar spot!)...and a few new clothes. I saved all the receipts, don't worry. There are also a few new toys...but most of what you will see in the pictures are gently used I found at yard sales here in Center Grove. (We also put together a toddler medicine bin this weekend and bought tooth brushes and toddler tooth paste.)
Kid table and chairs was an early find ($10). Hot Wheels Mountain we found for $15. (That item is no longer made. Used it is selling for $200 online!) I paid dearly for the Duplo blocks, but compared to what they would have been new, it was a steal. There are literally hundreds of dollars retail in that one tote.
One toddler mattress so far (free!), Art Easel ($10 consignment shop). Many books given to us by friends.
On the right are more toys we found at yard sales very inexpensively. On the left in the hallway are SIX totes full of Geo Trax that we bought from a friend who was moving out of state. Like the Legos these are really expensive...we were so glad to be able to purchase them used. D, B and HJ have already had fun with them I don't doubt the 'littles' will too later on.
The high chairs all were purchased used. We have a total of $60 invested in the three of them. One new one would have been $99-$129 the cheapest ones we found. They even came out right as far as gender...one girl and two boys.
My "girl" totes look nearly empty next to the "boy" totes...but there is only one girl and two boys... So I'm not terribly concerned. I have a few new things squirreled away, an order coming from Crazy 8 with several cute dresses I got on clearance...and there are a few things here. I'm quite sure she will not go nekkid. LOL
This weekend the same friends who sold us the Geo Trax are selling us the first bunk bed! Complete with mattresses. WHAT A BLESSING! We are also purchasing TWO toddler beds/mattresses from a cousin whose twins are moving on up to big kid beds! Fortuitous! So what do we lack?
